Extras Required for Self Catered Accommodation
Some Self Catered and Catered Accommodation will already have basic kitchen appliances for you, however these are likely not to be amazing!
If you are living with housemates in private rented accommodation you won’t all need to bring all of these items, arrange for it so you only have one toaster and kettle etc. You may however still want to bring your own knives, plates and sauce/frying pans so as many people can cook and eat at the same time as is possible. Remember to read our catered list first, you will need all those items and then these below:
Kitchen
It may be worth considering getting a permanent black marker to write your name on food which will be very similar to everyone else’s, such as bags of frozen chips etc!

Food Preparation
- 2 Chopping boards (One for meat and one for vegetables)
- Bread knife
- Meat knife
- Vegetable and fruit chopping knife
- Cheese graterBean shredder
- Garlic crusher
- Colander and sieve
- Measuring jug
- Can/tin opener
- Masher
- Potato peeler
- Fruit squeezer
- Whisk
- Cooking oil
- Kitchen scales
Cooking and Eating Food
- A frying pan
- A wok? (If you like your Chinese!)
- Two or three sauce pans.
- One or two baking trays
- A few wooden spoons and a spatula.
- Pyrex dish/casserole dish/microwavable dish
- Lots of cutlery
- Pizza slicer
- Plates, bowls etc.
Cleaning Up
- Washing up liquid
- Kitchen cleaner
- Kitchen towels
- Hand wash, sponges and scourers
Other Useful Kitchen Items
- Salt, pepper, other spices, Worcester sauce, soy sauce etc.
- Freezer bags, sandwich bags and sandwich boxes to freeze food.
- Cling film and silver foil.

- Two or three tea towels
Bathroom
- Toilet roll
- Bathroom cleaner

A good idea would be to just flip the chopping board over instead of having two separate ones!
