So you’ve run out of money? Here are 13 ways to keep yourself alive while you wait for your next loan installment… maybe you’ll learn to spend the next one more wisely!
- Share meals with your housemates/flatmates – offer to eat any left over food!
- Use the reduced section in the supermarket to buy your food, and buy as much frozen food as you can to save money!
- Own brand supermarket food isn’t always the cheapest! Sometimes the brand name is cheaper, bizarrely sometimes even the organic version is cheaper.
- Pasta and cheese tastes fine! Mushrooms are a cheap source of protein if you can’t afford meat.
- Chicken breast meat is the most expensive part, try buying an entire chicken and saving parts of sandwiches or buying thigh or wing meat.
- See if you can extend your overdraft, or take out a new one.
- Reduce the heating and wear your outside clothes indoors as well.
- A bag of potatoes will last you ages and cost you very little.
- Lettuce is much cheaper than prewashed and cut salad leaves.
- Get your parents to send up food parcels for you!
- Drink whatever alcohol is cheap when you go out, chose cheaper nightclubs to go to, don’t drink as much!
- Outdoor hobbies can be much cheaper than other forms of entertainment.
- Cheese tastes good on almost anything.
