Spent your student loan already? Here are 13 ways to live on next to nothing!

So you’ve run out of money? Here are 13 ways to keep yourself alive while you wait for your next loan installment… maybe you’ll learn to spend the next one more wisely!

  1. Share meals with your housemates/flatmates – offer to eat any left over food!
  2. Use the reduced section in the supermarket to buy your food, and buy as much frozen food as you can to save money!
  3. Own brand supermarket food isn’t always the cheapest! Sometimes the brand name is cheaper, bizarrely sometimes even the organic version is cheaper.
  4. Pasta and cheese tastes fine! Mushrooms are a cheap source of protein if you can’t afford meat.
  5. Chicken breast meat is the most expensive part, try buying an entire chicken and saving parts of sandwiches or buying thigh or wing meat.
  6. See if you can extend your overdraft, or take out a new one.
  7. Reduce the heating and wear your outside clothes indoors as well.
  8. A bag of potatoes will last you ages and cost you very little.
  9. Lettuce is much cheaper than prewashed and cut salad leaves.
  10. Get your parents to send up food parcels for you!
  11. Drink whatever alcohol is cheap when you go out, chose cheaper nightclubs to go to, don’t drink as much!
  12. Outdoor hobbies can be much cheaper than other forms of entertainment.
  13. Cheese tastes good on almost anything.
