Gadgets I Really Want!
Posted by David | Filed under Hardware
There is nearly always some kind of stupidly expensive electronic gadgetry or piece of consumer electronics I really quite fancy having. Currently I have three things on my wish list! 2 of which I doubt I’ll ever get my hands on at all… well not until the prices drop anyway.
Wii Fit
At the top of my list, is Wii Fit, (RRP £69.99) it’s a bit more expensive than your average game but it looks like a really cool Wii accessory. The only thing stopping me buying it is the lack of stock in most online stores, and my own mind asking me if I really need it whenever it is in stock for those brief moments! I’ve had great fun recently with Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros Brawl so I may wait a few more months before getting Wii Fit! For those of you who don’t know, Wii Fit is an exercise game for the Nintendo Wii console, the gadget pictured below is known as the Balance Board, and the games involve using the balance board in different ways to do a number of different mini games including: Yoga, Aerobics, Strength Training and a variety of Balancing games. Review information on Wii Fit can be found on Metacritic

Satmap Active 10
My second most wanted gadget is the Satmap Active 10 (RRP £299), a GPS unit with a difference! Unlike your ordinary GPS the Satmap 10 can use OS maps to help you navigate, making it much more useful when you want to use a GPS unit for walking and cycling expeditions. OS maps are also far more detailed than your average GPS map containing information such as contours and land usage. Maps are available for 1:50 000 and 1:25 000 and are actually reasonably cheap when you consider how much OS maps cost to buy, but it is something to consider, on top of the £299 you pay for the unit and initial maps, further map packs cost from £29.99 upwards. It looks well built and has a massive screen for you to view your maps on. My only concern, which is a general one about GPS, is becoming dependent on the unit and actually being aware of where you are just by yourself. More information on the Satmap on their offical website.Â

iPhone 3G
You probably guessed this was coming at some point! Yes the iPhone 3G is on my gadget list and number 3, currently putting me off are general lack of stock and the fact its on contract, I’m not that much of a phone user so £30 a month plus £99 to buy the 8GB unit is hard to justify. I have considered the iPod touch but for the moment shall stick with my 5th generation iPod mainly for storage reasons. It looks great, and to have a camera, GPS unit (albeit probably not an amazing one), phone, email, Internet and MP3 player all rolled into one is exactly what I want to slim down my pockets saving me having to carry separate items. Though I am still a fan of a decent digital camera instead of camera phones, and the concern that if the phone breaks I’ve lost my camera, MP3 player and phone all at the same time. More information on iPhone features can be found on the Apple website.
