Enso

So I discovered this program called Enso today, it was actually through Songza as they are developed by the same person. Ensoallows you to do certain task significantly quicker than the traditional way would take. For example if I want to do a calculation right now with Enso all I have to do is type in the numbers, highlight and hold down Caps Lock, start typing calculate until it knows what I want and then let go of Caps Lock.

This does save quite some time, and it means I don’t have to find the calculator amongst all the Microsoft folders. Actually this function is less useful for me as I do have a keyboard with a calculator shortcut button on, but for many people this may not be the case.

I can also do Google searches from anywhere, If I am typing a word document and need something looking up I hold Caps Locks, type Google and then the search term and hey presto about 10 seconds saved clicking on Internet Explorer… funnily enough I also have an Internet key on my keyboard but I think Enso is actually quicker, as it loads directly to Google, search terms already queried.

The interface of Enso is very sleek, and the usage of the Caps Lock key I think is a good idea, because I certainly never use it!

It can also do some other quite useful things like fully lowercase or uppercase highlighted text, which may be useful in certain circumstances.

There are lots of different Enso products the one I tried was called Enso Launcher. Others do different things like global spelling and grammar checking, inserting maps etc. Many are in Beta testing still but you can still try them anyway.

My Verdict: It’s a good start, I think I’d want to see the Enso products all merged together though into one big Enso thing! I’m not sure I am actually going to use it, but I shall see as the weeks progress if I actually do start to use it more and more. It’s quite nice having to not use the start menu all the time to open things. This may help people more who are advanced efficient computer users who want to do things as quick as is physically possible, and where moving one hand from the keyboard to the mouse would result in time lost they would rather not waste!
